Bien Nacido Vineyards is located on south facing slopes in the Santa Maria Valley and is recognized as one of the premier vineyards in California for cool climate varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Syrah. J. Wilkes Pinot Noir is produced from Block Q, which is known for well-drained shaly loam soils. Our Pinot Blanc is produced from Block D which has well-drained sandy loam soils and is planted to a new clone of Pinot Blanc imported from Italy. The wines made from this clone exhibit good natural acidity and ripe flavors. The vines in both Block Q and D are planted north to south allowing for excellent sunlight penetration into the canopy. Solomon Hills Vineyards is a rising star among the great vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley AVA. Solomon Hills is planted on west facing slopes within eyesight of the Pacific Ocean. Cool breezes from the ocean make this vineyard among the coolest climate vineyards in all of California. Currently only about 50 acres are planted to vines. This, coupled with the low yield of the vines, means only a handful of select wineries have access to these grapes. |
