This Pinot is deep, full-bodied and rich, with a succulent core of black cherry, mocha and spice flavors, and is dry despite the ripe fruitiness.

89 J. Wilkes 2002 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County). 
Shows cherry, cola, cocoa and coffee flavors wrapped in nicely balanced acids and tannins, with a pleasant mouthfeel through the finish.  This is a dry, very nice, coastal Pinot Noir, silky and elegant.

90 J. Wilkes 2004 Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Blanc (Santa Barbara County). 
This brilliantly fruity wine shows South Coast Chardonnay-like flavors in the ripe mango, papaya and peach, and also showcases cool-climate acidity that makes that fruit sing on the palate.  It’s a young, dry, vibrantly fresh wine that’s delicious by itself, but should be fabulous with fish or chicken topped with a tropical fruit salsa.

Our favorite of this trio from veteran wine hand Jeff Wilkes, it is riper and deeper than the other two, although at the slight expense of some extra bluster in its build. We enjoyed its concentrated cherry flavors and its broad, beefy texture and would recommend it as an accompaniment to lamb chops and roasts.

Medium-deep ruby purple color; spicy, earthy aromas with a touch of stewed cherry on the nose; rich and ripe cherry flavors with spice and just a bit of toasty oak; nice balance with a lingering finish...well suited to the table.

Medium-deep ruby purple color; rich, black cherry and earthy aromas; rich and ripe with black cherry, earthy forest floor flavors, toasty oak, good structure and balance; lingering finish.  This is a really rich and full Pinot with a lot of deep core fruit - great with a hearty meal.

Medium-deep ruby purple color; deep, lush aromas with mint and herbs; full, rich blackberry flavors with toasty oak and herbal/minty notes; good structure and balance; lingering finish. More in an herbal, blackberry style, this Napa Valley Pinot has a lot to like.

Pinot Blanc, Bien Nacido 2004
A flat out fun wine. Strong with minerals and stone fruits…bright with a fine minerality and scintillating acidity…ripe honeysuckle and apple blossom. This pinot blanc is so refreshing that it should be a "go to" wine all over town this summer.

Pinot Noir, Bien Nacido Q 2002
The fruit flavors are full bodied, almost syrupy and certainly concentrated. Dark cherry, cranberry and pomegranate hit a sweet spot, then fan out to display its rich and mouth-coating aspects. Well-balanced…a nice al dente chewiness that creates an even greater sense of depth. The finish echoes the whole package of flavors and persists long after you swallow.

Pinot Noir, Vall-Foss Vineyard 2003
Cherry, then violet, lavender, mushroom and minerals rush in…deepen into black cherry and plum, complemented by spices/herbs, wood smoke, minerals, chocolate and freshly turned loamy earth. J. Wilkes' most dense and rich Pinot with great aging potential.

2001 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q This wine is very enjoyable with an appealing cooked cherry nose, a soft but full mouthfeel, and a nice finish of refreshing acidity.
2002 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q Similar to the 2001 vintage, but ramped up a bit.  A lovely cherry and floral nose… leading to a fresh cherry-toned and spicy finish.  A very feminine, sexy wine.  Lipsmacking.
2003 Vall-Foss Vineyard Napa Valley A delicious Pinot Noir...this wine is darker, deeper, denser with sweet purple fruits and some tantalizing earth notes. This is a 'bomb'.

2003 Solomon Hills Vineyard Pinot Noir
Exudes effusive aromatics of black cherry and plum, with subtle accents of smoke, spice and a big but not excessive kiss of oak...on the palate, big fruit, zippy acidity and tannins...it opens nicely with air.

2003 Vall-Foss Vineyard Block T6, Napa Valley Pinot Noir
Cherry and licorice, brown spice, chocolate and maple syrup...Pretty smooth with moderate tannins...reminiscent of white house ice cream, all cherry and vanilla.

2002 Bien Nacido Vineyard Block Q Pinot Noir
Ruby garnet in color with a fairly generous nose of candied cherry and black cherry, echoing and expanding on the palate with some added cranberry, pomegranate and...something like white house ice cream as it opens.  Medium to full bodied...it's smooth, kind o' creamy.
